AutoNaming Pages in Takeoff

Takeoff just got smarter. With AutoNaming, your project pages are automatically renamed based on the “Sheet Number” field found in the Title Block—making it easier to organize, navigate, and start your takeoff faster.

What is AutoNaming?

AutoNaming is a new feature in Takeoff that automatically renames each plan page based on the “Sheet Number” from the Title Block of the file. The feature also adds alpha prefixes that help correlate pages to the right trade.

Key Benefits

  • Saves time – No need to manually rename pages one by one

  • Trade clarity – Pages are grouped and labeled with prefixes that map to trade types

  • No setup needed – It runs automatically on upload or project open

  • Works for everyone – Available for all user types and plan tiers

How It Works

  • When you open a project in Takeoff (either imported or PlanHub-posted), AutoNaming runs once to identify Title Block info.

  • If a “Sheet Number” is found, the page name is updated to match.

  • Alpha prefixes are added to help indicate trade (e.g., P-101 for plumbing).

  • If a page doesn’t have a Title Block or it’s empty, the name remains the default.

Do I Need to Turn It On?

Nope! AutoNaming is 100% automatic and runs the first time you open a file in Takeoff. No user action is required.

Will It Overwrite My Page Names?

No. AutoNaming only runs the first time a project file is opened. If you’ve renamed pages manually, they will not be changed or overwritten.

How Long Does It Take?

It depends on the size of the file:

  • Small projects (5–10 pages): 10–30 seconds

  • Large projects (25+ pages): ~1 minute

Who Has Access?

  • User Types: Subcontractors, General Contractors, Suppliers

  • Plans: Available to all users — free trials, basic, and paid accounts
