How to Begin a Takeoff In PlanHub
Introduction
Signage takeoffs involve measuring the area, width, and height of signs, as well as counting repeat occurrences throughout your plans. This guide walks through each process, making it easy to document and export your results.
Step 1: Open the signage plan and identify the sign you’ll measure.

Step 2: Set the page scale so all measurements are accurate. Open the Scale menu from the toolbar, select the scale that matches your drawing, and click Set.

Step 3: Start measuring the area of the sign. Select the Area tool and select the 2-point mode for rectangular signs. Name the measurement, choose a color, and click Set.

Step 4: Click one corner of the sign, then the opposite corner, to outline and measure the area. View the result in the measurements panel.

Step 5: Temporarily hide the area measurement before moving on.

Step 6: For width, select the Linear tool in Segment mode.

Name and select a color for the measurement.

Click once at each end of the sign’s width. The panel displays the value.

Step 7: Perform the same steps again to measure the sign's height.

Counting Signs
Step 1: Use the Count tool to tally signs like exit signs or room labels. Click Count on the toolbar. No scale required.

Step 2: Name your count (e.g., "exit signs"), pick a color and symbol, adjust symbol size if needed, then click Set.

Step 3: Hover over each exit sign on the plan and left click the mouse button to add a count mark. Move around the page and click on each exit sign symbol to add it to the tally.

Step 4: Review your count results in the panel on the right side of the page. The total number of counted signs appears automatically.

Exporting Results
Step 1: When finished, go to the Project Measurements view at the top of the window. Review the full table of measurement results.

Step 2: Use the Export button in the upper right to export the table in spreadsheet format.

Takeoffs let you quickly and accurately capture all required sign data from your plans. Repeat the process for other signage or labels. Now you’re ready to present or share your building sign measurements with confidence.
