Landscaping - A Quick Takeoff How To

Landscaping takeoffs are fast and efficient using PlanHub’s takeoff tools. With just three tools—Linear Line, Area Multi Point, and Count Tool—you’ll quickly measure edging, fence lines, planting beds, mulch areas, and tally up individual plants. Here’s how to use each tool step by step.

 

Prerequisites: You need a subscription or trial that includes Takeoff to measure plans, export a plan into TakeOff, and set the scale. Then you can begin measuring.

Measure Edging, Fences, and Retaining Walls with the Linear Line Tool

Step 1: Click the Linear button on the toolbar:

  • Click Line
  • Enter a name for the measurement
  • Click Set

Step 2: Begin measuring:

  • Move your cursor to the starting point on the plan.
  • Left click once to start drawing your line.
  • Left click at each corner to change direction
  • Double left click on the final point to end the section

Step 3: To add more sections to the same measurement result:

  • Click the Continue switch on the measurement result
  • Repeat the same process to measure as in Step 2
  • Left click to start a new section
  • Click at each corner and double left click to finish new segments
  • Turn the continue switch off with a click when done

Step 4: See your total linear measurement in the panel on the right side of the page.

Measure Square Feet of Planting Beds, Sod, and Mulch Areas with Area Multi Point

Step 1: Measure Areas:

  • Click Area on the toolbar
  • Select MultiPoint
  • Enter a name for the measurement
  • Select a color if you like
  • Click Set to begin

Step 2:Begin measuring:

  • Left click at the starting point of the area
  • Left click at each corner to outline the space
  • Double left click to end the measurement

Step 3: The square foot measurement appears on the right side of the page.

Step 7: Click the plus symbol to also see the linear perimeter of your measured area.

Tally Plants and Objects with the Count Tool

Step 1: Begin Measuring:

  • Click the Count button on the toolbar
  • Name your count
  • Select a color
  • Choose a symbol
  • Click Set to begin measuring

Step 4: Hover over each object and left click once to place the count symbol. Repeat until all the similar object have been marked.

Step 5: Each click places a symbol where you marked, and a running tally updates on the right side of the page.
